Letter to Florida Governor, Senate and House Leaders Regarding ROGOs in Monroe Co
The following email and attached letter was sent to the Governor, Senate President, Representative Mooney, Representive Lopez, Senator Rodriguez, and Senator Calatayud on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Happy Florida Keys Day in Tallahassee! While I wish I could be there alongside my fellow community members for today’s important conversations, our association is wrapping up the final day of the 20th Annual March Merkin Permit Tournament in Key West. As the Executive Director of the Key West & Lower Keys Fishing Guides Association (dba Lower Keys Guides Association or LKGA), I am reaching out to urge your support for HB 995 as a responsible and balanced approach to growth in the Florida Keys, while also encouraging thoughtful reconsideration of key provisions in SB 1326 and SB 1730.
The Florida Keys face increasing challenges from development pressures, environmental degradation, and the need for workforce housing. HB 995 provides a measured and sustainable path forward, ensuring that growth aligns with infrastructure capacity and ecosystem health. In contrast, SB 1326 and SB 1730, in their current forms, propose development levels that could strain local resources, threaten water quality, and undermine the long-term health of our fisheries and communities.I have attached a formal letter outlining LKGA’s position and proposed solutions.
